The rules of the home.

Plain-language terms for using Beitmate. By creating an account, you agree to these.

Last updated: 29 April 2026

1. About these terms

These are the terms and conditions for using Beitmate. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

For any question about these terms or the service, you can reach us at support.beitmate@gmail.com.

We refer to ourselves as "Beitmate", "we", "us", and "our". We refer to you as "you" and "your". "The service" means the Beitmate web app, iOS app, Android app, and the website at beitmate.com.

2. Who can use Beitmate

To use Beitmate, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years old.
  • Be able to form a binding contract under the law that applies to you.
  • Provide accurate information when you sign up, and keep it up to date.
  • Keep your login credentials secure. You're responsible for what happens on your account.

One person, one account. Don't impersonate someone else, and don't sell or transfer your account.

3. Acceptable use

Beitmate is meant to make life with roommates easier. Please don't use it to:

  • Break the law, or help anyone else break the law.
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users.
  • Upload content that's illegal, hateful, defamatory, or sexually explicit.
  • Try to hack, reverse-engineer, scrape, or overload the service.
  • Send spam, phishing, or malware through the service.
  • Resell or rebrand the service without our written agreement.

If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account.

4. Your content and the licence you grant us

Anything you put into Beitmate — expenses, notes, photos, memories, tasks — stays yours. You own it.

To run the service, you give us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display, and transmit your content, but only as far as needed to operate Beitmate for you and your colocation. This licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, subject to the backup retention timelines explained in our Privacy Policy.

You're responsible for the content you put into the app. Don't upload anything you don't have the right to share, and be respectful of your roommates' privacy too.

5. Important: we are not a payment service

This one really matters, so we want to be very clear about it.

Beitmate is a tracking tool, not a payment service. We help you and your roommates keep track of who owes what. We do not hold money, transfer money, or process settlements between you. When you "settle up", that happens entirely outside Beitmate — through your bank, Revolut, cash, or any other means you choose.

This means:

  • We are not a bank, e-money institution, or payment service provider under EU law.
  • We are not regulated by the ACPR or any equivalent financial authority for money movement.
  • We're not responsible if a roommate doesn't pay you back.
  • The figures shown in the app are based on what you and your roommates enter. If something's wrong, fix it inside the app.

The only money flowing through Beitmate is what you pay us for a premium subscription, processed by Stripe (web) or by Apple/Google with RevenueCat (mobile).

6. Subscriptions and billing

Beitmate has a free plan and a premium subscription with extra features.

  • On the web: premium is billed by Stripe.
  • On iOS and Android: premium is billed through Apple's App Store or Google Play, managed via RevenueCat. Their billing rules also apply.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel. Prices are shown at checkout in your local currency where possible, and may include applicable VAT.

You can cancel any time:

  • Web subscriptions: from your Beitmate account settings.
  • iOS subscriptions: from your Apple ID subscription settings.
  • Android subscriptions: from your Google Play subscription settings.

Cancelling stops future renewals — it doesn't refund the current period, except where the law requires it (see the right of withdrawal below).

7. Your 14-day right of withdrawal (EU)

If you live in the European Union, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal on a new premium subscription, under EU consumer law (Directive 2011/83/EU and the French Consumer Code).

To use this right, email us at support.beitmate@gmail.com within 14 days of starting the subscription. You don't have to give a reason. We'll refund what you paid, using the same payment method, within 14 days of receiving your request.

Important exception: if you ask us to start providing premium features immediately and you confirm at checkout that you understand you'll lose your right of withdrawal once the service has been fully provided, the right may not apply. We'll show you a clear notice about this at checkout so you can make an informed choice.

For subscriptions purchased through Apple's App Store or Google Play, refunds are handled by them under their own policies.

8. Service availability

We work hard to keep Beitmate available, but we can't promise 100% uptime. The service may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance, updates, technical problems, or things outside our control (like an outage at one of our providers).

We don't promise the service will be free of bugs, and features may change, be added, or be removed over time as the product evolves.

9. Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it — for example, for fraud, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or your statutory consumer rights.

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We provide the service "as is" and "as available".
  • We're not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, lost data, or losses you couldn't reasonably foresee.
  • We're not responsible for disputes between you and your roommates about money, chores, presence, or anything else logged in the app.
  • For any claim related to a paid subscription, our total liability is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

10. Intellectual property

Beitmate — including the brand, logos, design, code, and content we provide — belongs to us or our licensors. We give you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the service for its intended purpose. You don't get any other rights.

11. Termination

You can stop using Beitmate any time. You can delete your account from inside the app, or by emailing support.beitmate@gmail.com.

We can suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we have to for legal reasons, or if your behaviour puts other users or the service at risk. Where it's reasonable, we'll let you know first.

If your account closes, the parts of these terms that should logically survive (like the licence over content already shared, our liability limits, and governing law) keep applying.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If a change is meaningful, we'll let you know in advance — by email, an in-app notice, or both. If you don't agree with the new terms, you can close your account before they take effect.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law, together with the directly applicable EU regulations (including the GDPR).

If you're a consumer based in another EU country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer rules of your home country.

If you have a complaint, please email us first at support.beitmate@gmail.com — we'll do our best to sort it out.

If we can't resolve it, EU consumers can use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. You can also bring a case in the courts of your country of residence, as French and EU consumer law allow.

14. Contact

For anything to do with these terms — questions, complaints, or feedback — email us at support.beitmate@gmail.com.
